The dance hit “Hold Me Closer” now has an official video – in which neither Elton John nor Britney Spears appear.

“Hold Me Closer”, the joint song by Britney Spears (40) and Elton John (75), has been in the international charts for weeks. Now the two superstars a video for the song released. What we don’t see in it, however: Elton John and Britney Spears.

Instead, various dance couples, directed by Tanu Muino (32), move with contemporary dance in front of the colorful backdrop of Mexico City. It makes perfect sense that Spears and John left the dancing to professionals: They perform an emotional choreography by Jacob Jonas, which translates the lyrics into movements. The dancers fight, fall, help themselves up and – true to the title “Hold Me Closer” – lie in each other’s arms.

Big names that open doors

The video description states that with the clip, Muino “beautifully captures a boundless sense of intimacy that has been so missed in the world through the turmoil and chaos of recent times.” The director herself admits that the work was particularly emotional for her since Britney Spears played a big role in her career: “After seeing ‘I’m a Slave 4 U’ I decided that I wanted to be a music video director wanted to become.”

Muino goes on to say that she wanted to create something “unexpected” to make her role models proud. The architecturally interesting places in front of which people dance are particularly striking. Here the names of the superstars literally opened doors: “Getting access to the most private locations in the world was easy because everyone wanted to work with Elton John and be part of this project.”

Spears gushed about “Tiny Dancer”

According to a press release, the foundation for the dance anthem, which was released at the end of August, was laid in 2014 when Elton John and Britney Spears met at the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards party. A year later, Spears tweeted how much her song “Tiny Dancer” meant to John. In the summer of 2022, the musician planned a dance remake of his big hit and asked Spears if she wanted to share the microphone with him. “Hold Me Closer” is also her comeback – and her first song since 2016.

“It was a huge honor to be asked by Sir Elton John to record one of his iconic songs with him,” the pop princess said afterwards. And Elton John was also “extremely happy that I had the opportunity to work with Britney Spears”.
