Without the rest of the Nupes, the PS deputies present their counter-budget

The PS deputies presented their counter-budget “against the high cost of living” on Tuesday, an approach carried out without the rest of the left-wing Nupes coalition after the rifts with LFI over the situation in the Middle East.

This counter-budget focuses on a certain number of emergencies, such as housing, healthcare, education, ecology and purchasing power, indicated the leader of the socialist deputies Boris Vallaud, during a press point at the National Assembly.

With the use of 49.3, the Prime Minister no longer bothers with parliamentary debate on the budget, the government is not accountable. But on top of that, he refrains from listening to alternative proposals, criticized the elected representative from Landes.

In terms of education, MP Fatiha Keloua Hachi called for a system to limit the number of students to 19 per class in elementary school and 24 in middle school, a measure worth one billion euros.

For purchasing power, the socialists want to increase the minimum wage to 1,600 euros net (2 billion), increase all civil servants by 5% (10 billion), and social minimums by 7.5% (3 billion).

On the health side, the PS group is calling for a plan to rebuild the public hospital worth 3.9 billion euros.

In the ecology section, the socialist deputies want an efficient energy renovation of 125,000 additional homes (2.2 billion euros) and a subscription for all train trips excluding TGV at 48 euros per month on the German model (3 billion).

To finance their plan, the PS elected officials are demanding in particular the taxation of the super profits of large companies (6.4 billion euros) or the cancellation of the reduction in production taxes (15 billion). They also want to reinstate the wealth tax.

The Nupes coalition initially intended to present a common counter-budget, but the PS withdrew from this approach, after the left’s disagreements over the situation in the Middle East due to the refusal of Jean-Luc Mlenchon and his inner circle to qualify Hamas as terrorist.

In budgetary matters, LFI also criticizes the PS for not explicitly asking for retirement at 60.

Our proposal in our counter-budget is the repeal of the pension reform at 64 for a return to the legal age of 62, says Jrme Guedj (PS), but our horizon is a return to 60 starting with the broken careers, the arduous professions, he assures.
