Former world boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko (45) would go to war for Ukraine if necessary. He has registered as a reservist in the Ukrainian army.
This after he and his older brother Vitali Klitschko (50) visited a facility where volunteers can volunteer to defend the country. His brother Vitali has been mayor of the Ukrainian capital of Kiev since 2014.
“For my city of Kiev, for my country, for my family”
Wladimir Klitschko has now registered there as a reservist in the Ukrainian army. The ex-boxing world champion explains his reasons to the “Bild”. «My motivation is love for my city of Kiev, for my country, for my family. And this love is unstoppable,” he says. He adds: “My daughter goes to school here.”
But Klitschko also makes it clear that he is not only concerned with his country, but with all of Europe. Because: «I believe that if there is a war in Ukraine, it will not only remain in Ukraine or on the territory of Ukraine. I think Europe will definitely be affected by this.”
Ukraine needs more support
He also says: “We should be prepared for all cases and I also understand that the support comes from the West and also from Germany. But there is never enough support.” Meanwhile, Klitschko has repeatedly made it clear that Ukraine does not want war, but that preparations must be made. (eu)
