WM-Aus, Olympia in danger ?: Artistic gymnast Elisabeth Seitz suffers a horror injury

World Cup gone, Olympics in danger?
Artistic gymnast Elisabeth Seitz suffers a horror injury

Bad news for Elisabeth Seitz: The German record champion in gymnastics tore her Achilles tendon during training and has been out for months. Will she come back from the horror injury again? Seitz is combative, but she misses the World Cup and the Olympics are also in danger.

Germany’s most successful gymnast Elisabeth Seitz will be out for several months after tearing her Achilles tendon and will therefore also miss the World Championships in Antwerp in early October. This was announced by the German Gymnastics Federation (DTB). The German record champion suffered the injury in her right foot during training on Monday.

“I have to let it all sink in first. I’m very sad that I can’t support my team on the way to the Olympics at the World Cup in Antwerp,” said the 29-year-old sports soldier in a statement. But she ruled out resigning: “But my path is far from over.” Seitz injured his right leg in the double twist element on the ground, as the DTB announced. She is scheduled to be operated on in Heidelberg this Wednesday.

Olympics? Seitz is combative!

An Achilles tendon rupture is one of the most serious injuries that athletes can sustain. Some people never manage to come back from it one hundred percent. That’s why Seitz is in danger of missing the Olympic Games in Paris next year. But the gymnast is combative. “This injury will not stop me from pursuing my dream of the 2024 Olympic Games,” added the 2022 European champion on Instagram.

Just over a week ago, Seitz won the first World Cup qualification for German gymnastics in Frankfurt/Main and, in an internal comparison, beat the former European balance beam champion Emma Malewski and Karina Schönmaier (both from Chemnitz). In the second part of the fight for the World Cup ticket, Malewski will go to the equipment on Saturday in Heidelberg together with Pauline Schäfer-Betz (Chemnitz) and Sarah Voss (Cologne). The strong teams from France, Great Britain, Romania and Switzerland also take part in the country comparison.

“I’m very sad that I can’t support my team on the way to the Olympics at the World Championships in Antwerp. But I’ll support them from outside as much as I can. I’m sure they’ll pull it off,” said Seitz. At the World Championships, tickets for the Olympic team competition will be awarded. For this, the two German squads must each occupy at least twelfth place.
