Wolfurttrophy – local heroes get a dream start on Saturday

The quarter-final day of the “Wolfurttrophy” started with a big and, from Vorarlberg’s point of view, a very pleasant surprise: the 22-year-old Wolfurttrophy Anna Oberhauser and her Salzburg partner Vici Deisl eliminated the number three pairing Schaberl / Wiesmeyr and made it to the quarterfinals. The Hinteregger sisters, who were able to prevail against Rihs / Haas, also made it there.

Really many spectators were not yet on the Wolfurter Center Court when local hero Anna Oberhauser and partner Victoria Deisl fought against Kora Schaberl and Stephanie Wiesmeyr on Saturday morning at 8.30 a.m. for the quarter-finals. It’s a shame, because the beach volleyball fans missed a big surprise.

It didn’t look like a sensation at the beginning. Oberhauser / Deisl quickly fell behind the number three seeded favorites and clearly had to give up the first set at 14:21. Even in the second round it didn’t look like a sensation was possible for a long time. But the Vorarlberg woman and her Salzburg partner could not really be shaken off and took the lead for the first time at 17:16. A tour that they finally “saved” at 21:19.

With the momentum behind them, the Oberhauser / Deisl went into the decisive set, in the end they were ahead with 15:13 after a total playing time of 50 minutes and thus provided the first really big surprise of the Wolfurttrophy 2021. They are now waiting in the quarter-finals one seeded Viktoria Fink and Eva Freiberger, who were able to land a smooth victory against the Wolfurt sisters Sarah and Lina Hinteregger in the pool phase.

Three set win for the “Hintis”
And after the Oberhauser sensation, these Hinteregger sisters ensured that a “pure” Ländle duo also made it into the round of the last eight. Against the Lower Austrians Rebecca Rihs and Isabel Haas – against whom Sarah and Lina lost 2-0 in the quarter-finals of the Austrian U21 championship in Innsbruck last week – the Wolfurt women celebrated a three-set victory on Center Court. Now it is against the number two seeded Styrians Anna Katharina Mayr and Julia Mitter to move into the semi-finals, which will then be played on Sunday.
