The woman suffered severe burns to her head and torso, according to the statement. She was flown to the hospital by helicopter. The attackers are on the run.

The incident happened on Thursday evening around 8:50 p.m. in the Les Pinceleuses district of Areuse. As the police write, an unknown man appeared in front of the door of the woman’s house. Using false pretenses, he managed to lure the victim out of the building. Outside, a second person “probably sprayed the victim with a flammable substance,” police said.

Four police units, the criminal police and the forensic service of the Neuchâtel police were on site. The fire brigade, the rescue service and two technical chemical consultants were also on duty. The public prosecutor’s office had initiated a criminal investigation and called witnesses.
