Many mothers have explained on social media that family vacations are not vacations for them at all. In the end, it’s just moved his family to a new place while managing absolutely all the logistics. And it all starts before the trip: preparing the destination, visits, shopping, suitcases, cleaning and tidying up the house, taking care of the animals… Once there, it’s off again for the mom: provide meals for everyone, bags for outings, clean up, machines if necessary, and do the program. The results of the study are clear: “The analysis of the study thus shows that despite a period when their spouse is supposed to be more available, the unequal sharing of domestic chores is prolonged (even amplified) during the holidays” But that’s not all, the end of the holidays is not easy either: “on their return they take on most of the stress and tasks related to the start of the school year: suitcase to pack, laundry to wash, school supplies to buy, looking for childcare…” François Kraus, the director of the “Gender and sexualities” pole at Ifop explained the results: “This survey clearly shows that women are never on vacation as much as men since during this period, they still suffer from the unequal distribution of domestic tasks experienced the rest of the year. However, this holiday inequity between the sexes prevents many women from “recharging the batteries” as they should, and even more so when they cannot delegate the management of summer family life (e.g. meals) to a third person.
