SRF meteorologist Luzian Schmassmann assumes that driving in Zermatt will only be possible on Sunday at most.

Last weekend, ski fans were in for a treat. Due to the weather, both men’s downhill runs in Zermatt had to be canceled. Instead of spectacle, there was frustration – but also a bit of hope.

This is because next weekend will be the next opportunity for the World Cup premiere on the Matterhorn. The program includes two women’s downhill runs. However, due to the weather, implementation is not guaranteed this time either.

Training on Thursday, racing on Sunday?

SRF meteorologist Luzian Schmassmann’s confidence is limited. “There will be another shake-up,” he says. The reason: “The changeable weather continues. There is always fresh snow, followed by sunny periods, plus very windy periods.

As a result, it will be difficult to prepare a passable slope. Schmassmann predicts that training can only take place on Thursday. “On Friday you can forget about it – the wind will be much too strong, plus there will be fresh snow.”

Schmassmann therefore doubts that it will be possible to drive on Saturday. “But it could work for Sunday morning.”
