Released on Wednesday, December 13 in our theaters, “Wonka” is a musical whose plot takes place before that of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. But is it really Timothée Chalamet who is singing?
There were songs in versions by Tim Burton and Mel Stuart. But Wonka goes even further on this level, since the prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Paul King is a real musical comedy, with songs that start from the very first scene, just to quickly get into the swing of things.
But is it really Timothée Chalamet, more airy and luminous than ever, who sings during these sequences? The answer is yes. If videos available on YouTube have proven his dancing talents, Wonka reveals his vocal skills to us, thanks to songs composed or reinvented by Neil Hannon, leader of the group The Divine Comedy.
Alone, in a duo or alongside the cast of the film, Timothée Chalamet sings eight different songs. Including a cover of “Pure Imagination”from the 1971 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory carried by Gene Wilder, and of which Wonka is explicitly presented as the prequel.
The star of Dune is not the only one to sing here since the rest of the cast lends itself to the game: from the young Calah Lane to the interpreters of the villains Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton and Keegan-Michael Key, including Hugh Grant, who lends his features to an Oompa-Loompa.
