Snowboarder Jan Scherrer comes second at the World Cup opener. Freeskier Mathilde Gremaud also impressed in the USA.

Copper Mountain was a good place for Swiss snow sports enthusiasts on Friday. In the first Halfpipe World Cup of the season in the USA, snowboarder Jan Scherrer immediately made it onto the podium.

The 28-year-old from eastern Switzerland showed a strong performance at the start and scored 96.25 points in his best run. In second place, he was only beaten by the outstanding Australian Scotty James (99 points). There were no Swiss women in the final, 18-year-old Isabelle Lötscher, who came ninth, missed qualifying by just under 2.25 points.

Gremaud also second

A few hours before Scherrer’s sixth career podium place, Mathilde Gremaud had already caused jubilation in Copper Mountain. The 22-year-old freeskier also jumped onto the podium in the second Big Air competition of the winter. After after third place in Chur, the woman from Freiburg was now second.

With a total of 172.00 points from her best two jumps, she was only beaten by Canadian Megan Oldham. Gremaud’s compatriot Sarah Höfflin finished fourth with 164.00 points, five points behind third-placed Canada’s Olivia Asselin.

For Gremaud, Olympic Slopestyle Champion and Beijing Big Air third, it’s her 14th podium finish in the World Cup and her 8th in Big Air.

Ragettli not in the final

In the men’s category, none of the Swiss Ski representatives made it into the big air final of the top eight. Andri Ragettli, 4th in the overture in Chur, finished 16th as the best Swiss.
