“Europe’s farmers are drowning in milk overproduction”
In 2022, the family processed 80,000 liters into cheese, spreads, curd cheese and yoghurt: “We also rely heavily on direct marketing. Because Europe’s farmers are drowning in milk overproduction, as much pure milk as we farmers produce is not needed. Without processing, the dairy farm would not be profitable at all,” explains the 38-year-old and names another advantage of self-production: “Of course, money also plays a role. We only get 0.57 cents gross from the dairy for one liter. Not a bad milk price, but feed and energy costs are also increasing! In direct marketing, we are independent when it comes to pricing.”
