Wendy Holdener takes silver in the parallel race at the World Championships in Méribel. For Switzerland it is the 5th medal. There is gold for Maria Therese Tviberg and Alexander Schmid.

Wendy Holdener secured the 5th Swiss medal at the Ski World Championships in Courchevel/Méribel. In the parallel race, which was only held for the second timethe 29-year-old secured silver. In the final, Maria Therese Tviberg from Holden had to admit defeat. After completing the first run at the same time, the Norwegian was 67 hundredths faster in the second final run.
Holdener’s impressive palmarès
For Holdener it is the 6th medal at world championships – the 2nd in Méribel after silver in the combination at the start of the title fights. In 2017 and 2019, the Schwyz native also won gold in the alpine combination, in addition there was silver in slalom in 2017 and gold in 2019 with the team. There are also 5 Olympic medals.
Holdener initially had to correct a small deficit against Coralie Frasse-Sombet (FRA) in the round of 16. In the quarter-finals, she easily eliminated one of the favorites, Sara Hector (SWE), before she held the surprising local hero Marie Lamure in check in the semi-finals. She was unlucky in the fight for bronze because she lost a ski in the second run. Bronze went to another Norwegian, Stjernesund.
The men’s medals
- Gold: Alexander Schmid (GER)
- Silver: Dominik Raschner (AUT)
- Bronze: Timon Haugan (NOR)
Alexander Schmid secured the men’s world title. The German clearly prevailed against Dominik Raschner (AUT) in the final and thus wrote history as the first German world champion since Hansjörg Tauscher in 1989. Bronze went to the Norwegian Timon Haugan.
The other Swiss women
For Andrea Ellenberger and Camille Rast, the working day was already over after the round of 16. Ellenberger had to give way to Maryna Gasienica-Daniel (POL) by 22 hundredths. Rast lost 4 tenths in the two runs to Stjernesund (NOR), who later won bronze.
The Swiss men were all already on Tuesday stuck in qualifying. Gino Caviezel was unlucky, missing just a hundredth of a second to make it into the knockout phase.
The further program
On Thursday, the women will compete for gold in the giant slalom at the World Championships before the men fight for the “giant” crown on Friday. At the end of the title fights in Courchevel/Méribel, the slaloms are on the program at the weekend.
