The insurance company Berkshire Hataway Travel Protection recently established its annual ranking, a top 15 of the safest destinations, based on travelers’ opinions. Overall, Europe dominates this ranking.

Safety is an important criterion for vacationers around the world. The ranking of the insurance company Berkshire Hataway Travel Protection is therefore an interesting indicator for travelers. The main criteria taken into account for a safe vacation: low or no terrorist risk, few extreme climatic episodes, absence of epidemics. But also the possibility of walking around peacefully, without fear of being discriminated against or harassed.

France far behind the Canadian champion

Behind Canada, which takes the prize for the safest country in the world, Europe is omnipresent in the top 10. In order, Switzerland, Norway, Ireland and the Netherlands complete the top 5, while France comes in 13th place. The African continent does not appear, while Asia and South America are represented by Japan and Brazil. Oceania places two destinations in the top 15, Australia and New Zealand.

And what shows that security is an essential criterion is that the safest cities are increasingly popular according to Eva Fouquet, vice-president of the flight comparator Kayak. “Cities on the list of the safest countries in the world, such as Montreal in Canada, Zurich in Switzerland, or Reykjavik in Iceland, are increasingly attracting travelers, especially solo travelers. Research for Oslo and Reykjavik have increased by more than 10% this year. We have also noticed an increase in searches for flights to London and Zurich,” she explains.

Tourists traveling to France highlight the safety of transport and the low epidemic risk. On the other hand, there are negative points, the terrorist risk considered quite high and the frequent social unrest
