Announced with great fanfare in January 2022, Microsoft’s $68.7 billion takeover of Activision Blizzard hit a major snag this week. This is an important project, as it would allow Microsoft to get its hands on very lucrative licenses like call of duty, World of Warcraft Where candy Crush. A takeover a little too juicy for Sony’s taste, which has positioned itself as a major opponent of this affair.

Microsoft’s big campaign

Feeling the wind turned, Microsoft launched a major communication campaign to defend its project. The firm did not hesitate to attack Sony publicly, and to convince the first American video game union to support it. To isolate Sony, Microsoft also offered contracts with Nintendo and Valve to ensure Call of Duty won’t become an exclusive.

Arguments that did not convince the FTC, in charge of regulating competition in the United States. She decided to sue Microsoft to completely block the takeover. According to her, Microsoft would gain too much leverage by getting its hands on its franchises in the market for high-performance consoles and subscription services. In addition, it would not be possible to trust Microsoft after the acquisition of Bethesda, since the next games from the publisher will be exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem.

What do you think ?

We therefore take advantage of these twists to know your opinion. Would you like Microsoft to buy Activision Blizzard?
