WoW, everything you need to know about the Depths, the new PvE mode of The War Within

Unveiled during the opening night of BlizzCon 2023, the new WoW expansion, The War Within, has many new features including the Depths, a new PvE mode. While players are used to a weekly chest system with Mythic Dungeons +, Raid Bosses and Arenas, Blizzard intends to bring a breath of fresh air with HL content in solo or small groups. Here we present to you all the official details on the Depths, which promises to be one of the main new features of the future WoW expansion.

You can find our article bringing together all the big announcements from BlizzCon 2023 around the new expansion, The War Within.

The Depths, the new PvE HL mode on World of Warcraft

Years after the arrival of Mythic Dungeons + on Legion, World of Warcraft needed a renewal in terms of PvE HL content. The depths should somewhat fill this need for novelty for players but also provide an alternative to MM+ for those who don’t really appreciate group content.

Linked to the universe of the new Terrestrial allied race and the different areas of the expansion, the Depths are playable adventures for 1 to 5 players, offering the opportunity to go on a treasure hunt through riddles, puzzles and combat. . The latter will be adventures that can include 1 to 5 people (via scaling), like the flexible NM/HM Raids.

Presented as outdoor content, the Depths nevertheless seem to be instantiated. You will also need some kind of single-use keys to access it. Although we are not on a MM+ style model, the Depths will not be spammable in the same way as the M+. Note that 13 different adventures (12 normal and 1 hidden) will be accessible to players when the expansion is released.

More Weekly Chest Options

Again a system dating back several years (Battle for Azeroth), the Weekly Chest (the famous Vault) has undergone quite a few modifications over the seasons. However, the latter worked almost exclusively on group content.

However, the Depths will allow a pure solo PvE alternative, since the content produced during the week will occupy an additional line in the Weekly Chest. This will also replace PvP, which will no longer be present for the Vault in the new expansion.

Optional HL content but interesting on a PvE level

If the various members of the studio have hammered home the fact that the Depths would be optional content, the latter will nevertheless be relevant from a rewards point of view.

Thus, the level of difficulty will increase, challenging players in content playable solo but also in groups. If Horrific Visions or Torghast hadn’t really been a success in the eyes of the developers, the Depths should offer a completely different activity.

Indeed, Blizzard intends to make the Depths an optional activity and an annex to Raids and Mythic Dungeons +. Players will therefore not feel like they are missing out if they do not do Depths during the week. Conversely, the latter will be a way of compensating for players who do not enjoy playing in a group. It will therefore be possible to complete your Vault through this activity, but also to obtain seasonal rewards exclusive to this game mode.
