Writers’ strike: The Penguin and Daredevil Born Again suspend production indefinitely

We feared it and it’s official today: the playoffs The Penguin And Daredevil Born Again paused production until the writers’ strike was lifted in the United States. They are among the most anticipated programs of 2024.

These series are not the only ones in difficulty due to the strike, but it is the first time that two such large, highly anticipated productions have been frozen. The Penguin And Daredevil Born Again were very recently still filming at the New York studios of Silvercup East, the gathering place of the demonstrations. After further filming hiatuses this week, Warner Bros. and Disney therefore preferred to limit the damage.

The Penguin is a series of eight episodes planned on the Max streaming platform (and on the Pass Warner in France), derived from the film The Batman and dedicated to the famous antagonist of the Noi Knight. Colin Farrell, who plays this character, has also publicly supported the strikers.

On his side, Daredevil Born Again is a soft reboot from the original series of Netflix, released in 2014. It will see the return of Charlie Cox under the mask of the vigilante and must consist of 18 episodes.

As a reminder, this screenwriters’ strike began on May 2 and concerns 11,500 professionals. The Guild of American Screenwriters (WGA) denounces the current contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). In particular, it asks for better financial compensation related to streaming.

In 1988, the longest writers’ strike lasted 153 days, while that of 2008 lasted 100 days. The current strike has already caused the stoppage of the production of many series, including Stranger Things, The Old Man, Severance, Cobra-Kai or Yellowjackets.
