In order to make a good impression with a cover letter, applications or even a business plan, thanks to artificial intelligence you no longer have to be a great writer. These four steps should be followed for a good result.
Step 1: Explain to the AI who you are texting and why
Before writing a text, one should become aware of the task, purpose and audience of the text and communicate the ChatGPT. Is it a formal e-mail to an authority or a creative text for an application? It is best to define who your readership is and what needs and expectations you have of the text.
Example of a cover letter:
“Create a cover letter for my application as a marketing manager at startup XY. My contact person is Mr. Schmidt, the managing director and founder of the startup. He is responsible for marketing. My goal is to present myself as an employee who works independently and who likes to learn and adapt quickly familiarizes yourself with new topics. Before that, I worked at Mustermann GmbH and helped set up the marketing department there.”
Step 2: Think through the text yourself
For longer and creative texts, the best approach is to plan the content yourself and divide it into sections. To do this, ChatGPT needs the clearest possible instructions on the points it should write about. The order for the individual sections is therefore best written in short sentences or bullet points.

Step 3: Revise the text carefully
The best thing to do is slip into the role of an editor and see the AI as your assistant. ChatGPT provides the inspiration before you fine-tune the output yourself. It is important to check style, arguments, word images and examples and to bring in your own personality. After that, you should let your text rest for a moment.
You then refine the wording so that everything is precise and understandable. style tools like that “Word League Text Analysis” or that “blah meter” additionally help to improve the style and readability of the text.
Step 4: Have it proofread
No software finds all errors. That’s why it’s worth having someone else proofread longer texts – for example friends or colleagues.
