Wrong visa: Djokovic is not allowed to enter Australia

Wrong visa
Djokovic is not allowed to enter Australia

The Australian Open will possibly take place without the world number one: Novak Djokovic, who was stuck at Melbourne airport for the last few hours, will be refused entry. His lawyers want to take action against it.

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic was turned away when trying to enter Australia. The Australian border guard announced. “Non-citizens who do not have a valid visa upon entry or whose visa has been canceled will be detained and expelled from Australia,” the statement said. Djokovic is expected to be flown out on Thursday, but his lawyers have appealed, according to The Age newspaper.

The number one in the world rankings wanted to compete with a medical exemption for unvaccinated persons at the Australian Open in Melbourne (from January 17), but had obviously applied for the wrong visa. Djokovic had been stuck at the airport all night.

More on that in a moment.
