Aryna Sabalenka qualifies as the 3rd player for the semi-finals in Texas. Ons Jabeur is eliminated after the second defeat.

Aryna Sabalenka (WTA 7) celebrated her second victory in the last group game at the WTA Finals in Forth Worth (USA) and thus secured her place in the semi-finals. The Belarusian prevailed against Jessica Pegula (USA/WTA 3) 6: 3 and 7: 5.

Duel against the world number 1

The 24-year-old Belarusian, who is still looking for her first title in 2022, will face Iga Swiatek (WTA 1) on Sunday. The Pole has demonstrated her dominance on the tour this year with 8 titles including 2 Major titles at the French Open and the US Open.

For Pegula, on the other hand, the season finale ended in disappointment: the American couldn’t win a single game.

With Ons Jabeur, the number 2 in the world also failed. The Tunisians could have reached the semi-finals on their own with a two-set win over the already qualified Maria Sakkari (WTA 5). But Jabeur had no chance against the Greek and lost 2:6, 3:6. Sakkari secured the group victory without dropping a set.

Garcia or Kassatkina?

The French Caroline Garcia and the Russian Daria Kassatkina make up the last semi-final place in the other group on Sunday night.
