WWF warns that plastic waste in the oceans could quadruple by 2050

If we don’t change the way we deal with plastic, there is a risk of littering our oceans, says Dr. Bernhard Bauske from the environmental organization WWF. Because every year it is estimated that around 23 million tons plastic waste in our waterways. What many are not aware of: the plastic waste that ends up in the oceans stays there forever – mostly in the form of microplastics. And it is precisely this that puts a heavy strain on the ecosystem of the seas and endangers the animals living in them. To get the situation under control, Dr. Bernhard Bauske an international agreement with uniform, clearly defined mechanisms. Otherwise, plastic waste in our oceans will quadruple by 2050.
