It’s a debate that has often been launched: could you see yourself living in a house where a tragedy occurred several years ago? If some do not consider it, for others no problem…. And in particular for the inhabitants of the Nantes house where the Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès affair took place: in April 2011, the bodies of Agnès , his wife, and his four children (Arthur, Thomas, Anne and Benoit) were found dead under the terrace of the beautiful white building. The father, the alleged murderer of his family, has never been found.
Which has not prevented the house from being bought twice since: first sold in 2015, four years after the tragedy, for 260,000 euros, or half its value, it was bought in 2019 at a correct price, i.e. 479,000 euros. And no longer really resembles the one which welcomed the missing family in the 2000s: major work has been carried out, undoubtedly to forget its disastrous past, and a veranda has been built. We can also think that the terrace, for its part, no longer exists…
The neighborhood wants to move on
But that doesn’t stop curiosity: regularly during the day, onlookers stop to take a look at number 55, take photos, forcing the owners to hide their windows overlooking the street. And the ringing of doorbells, from curious people or journalists, is not rare. Which is starting to annoy the whole neighborhood, according to our colleagues at Paris Match.
“The house has been redone from A to Z, it no longer has anything to do with what it was“, the owner gets particularly annoyed when she sees people pointing at her facade. “You’re doing your job, I understand, but there’s nothing exciting here anymore, it must be boring for you too. Without journalists, we would have forgotten this story“, also argues a neighbor. Some are more understanding: “There is a bit of a macabre type of tourism. I think people are trying to understand“, analyzes the owner of the nearby burger restaurant in the columns of the weekly.
And the recent return to the forefront of the case should not help their situation: while Christine Dupont de Ligonnès, the sister of the missing accused, has made the rounds of television sets with a book in which she tells her version different from that of the investigators, several testimonies believed to recognize Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès in a religious community recently. Analyzes are underway.
