Good news for (future) fans of cloud gaming on Linux, ChromeOS or even Steam Deck: Xbox Cloud Gaming is now more efficient there.

Microsoft’s solution is also more recommendable when used in a web browser.

Microsoft refines its solution

Still in beta status since its initial launch on Android about two years ago, Xbox Cloud Gaming continues to improve. Offered on more and more platforms (the latest being integration with Samsung Smart TVs), Microsoft’s solution for playing in the Cloud is now being refined on Linux and ChromeOS.

Concretely, Jordan Cohen of Microsoft announces on Reddit : “ We just rolled out a set of performance improvements to Xbox Cloud Gaming for browser-based players on Linux and ChromeOS devices. You can expect higher resolution and a smoother streaming experience. »

The man doesn’t go into technical details, but he does point out that this milestone marks the end of a transition of the entire browser-based solution to a different streaming method. Thus, the experience should also be more consistent for players using Xbox Cloud Gaming via a browser on any terminal (smartphone, tablet, PC, etc.). On the other hand, always on RedditCohen specifies to users that no change is to be noted for the service on Android.

The Steam Deck also affected

In addition, this improvement on Linux and ChromeOS also concerns the Steam Deck. With Valve’s console operating system being Linux-based, Microsoft’s browser-based streaming experience should now be better there. Another strong argument for the portable machine.

Finally, let’s remember that, soon, thanks to a partnership between Microsoft and Meta, it is Meta’s virtual reality headsets that should host Xbox Cloud Gaming. Integrated into the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at 12.99 euros per month, the Redmond firm’s Cloud gaming service already offers a large catalog, which is expanding with new features every week.
