Video game juggernaut with Xbox, Microsoft has seen its importance grow since its acquisition of the Activision Blizzard group. Taking advantage of a multitude of exclusives, the group would consider changing strategy in the coming weeks by making some of its titles available on PlayStation 5 or even Nintendo Switch.
An end to Xbox exclusives soon confirmed by Microsoft
Since the end of last week, XboxEra, The Verge, Windows Central or *Giant Bomb* revealed that current and future Xbox exclusives would be released by the competition soon. The media mention in particular Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves or the saga Gears.
In a Twitter/X post published this Monday, February 5, 2024, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, finally reacted to this torrent of rumors, and half-heartedly confirmed a change in strategy around its exclusives.
We’ve planned a retail update event for next week, where we look forward to sharing more details with you about our vision for the future of Xbox.
Relaying this news, The Verge emphasizes that “Microsoft had initially planned this update for the end of the month”. It seems that the multiple rumors have pushed the Redmond firm to bring forward its schedule.
One thing is certain, the opening of Xbox exclusives augurs a major organizational change at Xbox. Indeed, this approach could sign the end of Microsoft’s consoles, given that the titles from its studios would also arrive at the competition.
In itself, this strategy is not surprising. Xbox regularly repeats its desire to make its titles available to as many people as possible, in particular thanks to Xbox Game Pass and its cloud gaming. By removing the barrier of exclusives, even non-subscribing players will be able to obtain Xbox games, whether on PS5 or Nintendo Switch for example.
