Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S: the price of consoles will increase in Japan, will France soon be affected?

While consoles have generally tended to drop in price over their life cycle, this ninth generation does the opposite. Due to inflation and the difficulty of offering enough stock due to the lack of certain raw materials, the PS5 has seen its price raised by 50 € in Europe, in the same way as other technological devices of the moment.

And it was to be expected, the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X will follow suit. Finally, not everywhere, because for the moment, only Japan is affected by this price increase. Microsoft will indeed raise the price of its two machines by ¥5,000 (around €35.5), to change them from ¥32.278 to ¥37.978 and from ¥54.978 to ¥59.978. The manufacturer does not explain precisely this increase, but declares that it was decided due to local “market conditions”.

After carefully evaluating the market conditions in Japan, we have decided to change the reference price for Xbox consoles in Japan. This price change will also affect our customers, and although it was a difficult decision, we will continue to deliver the best Xbox experience our customers have come to expect.

This should not help the popularity of Xbox in Japan, even if this generation of consoles of Microsoft received a better reception than the Xbox One, which sold very little there. Now, should we fear an increase in the price of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in France ? It’s hard to say, but after having sold off the Series S at less than €230 for the end-of-year celebrations, the manufacturer would be happy to raise its reference price to €350. However, it will be necessary to monitor the announcements of Microsoft on this subject.
