Xbox UPDATE: Xbox PINs, new names for power modes and more with October firmware

Xbox has new things to offer for the firmware of its consoles almost every month and October will not escape it. He just deployed a new version of the Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S system softwarebringing no major revolution, but several notable novelties.

The Xbox team is excited to continue to introduce new ways to improve the Xbox experience, with you at the heart of the decisions, refining it and bringing you new features based on your feedback. The October system update will allow you to change your TV volume from your Xbox Series X|S console, turn off all startup sounds, but it also improves the setup screens for choosing and changing your primary console, adds an update for Xbox controllers and more.

You will also see that a search bar has appeared at the top of the home screen, it will allow you to perform a quick search to find games, apps and media content.

Change your TV volume, a new CEC feature for Xbox Series X|S

Xbox Series X|S can use an HDMI feature called Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) to send and receive signals from a CEC-enabled device, such as the television connected to your console. Starting today, we’re adding a new feature for HDMI-connected Xbox Series X|S to your TV.

You can now change the volume of your television from the Audio and Music section of the Xbox Guide. To do this, press the Xbox button on your controller to bring up the Guide and go to the Audio and Music section, where you’ll see buttons that allow you to change the volume of your TV or mute the sound. You will no longer have to search for your remote control to change the volume in the middle of a game or when watching a movie.

Disable startup sounds

We’re adding a fan-requested feature that allows you to make your console startup completely silent. You can now customize your settings to mute all startup sounds on your Xbox. Head to Profile & System > Settings > General > Volume & audio output > Additional options, then select Disable startup sounds. You can also choose the Power Chime mode from this page.

Select your primary Xbox or change to another

By setting your Xbox as your home Xbox, your friends and family can access your games and content, even when you’re offline. Your main Xbox also allows you to enjoy your games in digital version when you are not online. We’ve added new setup screens to make this step and changing your primary console easier when setting up your new Xbox.

Changing the names of your Xbox’s power modes

Your Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One can use different power modes, depending on your preferences. This month, you’ll notice we’ve updated the information to help you decide which setting is right for you, and we’ve renamed the different options. You will now find the “Standby” mode and the “Complete shutdown (energy saving)” mode. To view your Xbox’s power options, open the Guide by pressing the Xbox button, then select Profile & System > Settings > General > Power options.

Xbox passwords and guest passwords become Xbox PINs

Xbox passwords and guest passwords provide an additional layer of security tied to your Xbox profile. They become Xbox PIN and Xbox PIN for guests today and nothing changes beyond the name. You can use your PIN on any Xbox console and limit access to purchases or parental controls.

Xbox controller update

Updating your controller optimizes its compatibility and capabilities. As of today, a new update is available that fixes bugs related to USB joysticks that you can connect to the Xbox Adaptive Controller as well as other bugs for the following Xbox controllers:

  • Xbox Elite Series 2 Wireless Controllers;
  • Xbox Series X|S Wireless Controllers;
  • Xbox Adaptive Controllers;
  • Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One wireless controllers.

You can update your controller through its wireless network or by connecting a USB cable.

Xbox app: Change the duration of your video clips

Want to save and share an epic snippet of your game? You can now change the length of your Xbox video clips from the Xbox app for Android and iOS. To get started, go to My Library > Captures, then select one of your clips. You will be able to define the beginning and the end of it before sharing it with your friends. This feature will start appearing in the Xbox app today and will be available to everyone very soon.

Xbox Game Bar: Sharing to Medal.tv and editing your clips

Xbox Game Bar works with most games on your Windows 10/11 PC and gives you instant access to dedicated screenshot and sharing widgets, all without leaving your game. Now you can import any clip recorded via Xbox Game Bar directly on Medal.tv, then edit, send and share your favorite moments.

During a game, press Windows Key + G on your keyboard to open Xbox Game Bar. If an Xbox controller is connected to your PC, all you need to do is press the Xbox button. In the Captures > See all my captures section, you will be able to select a clip to share on Medal.tv.
