Last Friday the Official Twitter from the Xenoblade Chronicles license has uploaded a new video that highlights the character of Ethel that we have already seen in the past. That’s not all, it’s also a cutscene that leaves us with some questions, but also some answers, especially regarding the nopons. We will return to these two topics in this article on Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
Ethel, enemy or ally?
If you’ve been following the news around Monolith Soft’s next game, you’ve noticed the announcements about certain protagonists or antagonists. Among them we find Ethel who seems to be, at first glance, a character that can be categorized as being evil. At least, this is what is shown to us in the description unveiled by Nintendo, but also in the trailer revealing the release date in which it treats Noah and the others as monsters before attacking them.
However, the cutscene shown last week shows Ethel coming to rescue Noah. this version of Ethel looks younger and so could very well represented a part of the story that will take place at the beginning of the game or that would simply be a memory of Noah to which we will have the right during our adventure. In any case, one thing is certain, Ethel is mysterious and perhaps her change in behavior towards Noah is not necessarily due to her betrayal but to something else that we will have to discover while playing this Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
To finish on this character, you should know that she already has a certain fan base and that a good number of players would like to see her integrated into the group of heroes in this opus, but let’s be patient and wait to find out what Monolith Soft reserves us around it. Maybe she’ll just be a boss?
The return of the nopons in force!
It’s time to talk about another subject that will please, it’s the one on the nopons. If you are not familiar with the universe of a Xenoblade, you may not know this race. They are simply small beings with big ears who are often related to merchants. However, in each of the previous games, your heroes were accompanied by one of them.

- Tatsu in Xenoblade Chronicles X
By telling you that, you doubt it, but it will also be the case in the next opus. Indeed, the cutscene shows us a blue nopon in the company of Noah and if you do not specifically follow the information on the subject. There are two nopons who will be in your team, namely Riku and Manana. You can discover them through the trailer revealing the release date or on the images below. Note that the two nopons seem to count as a single character on Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
What’s interesting about this cutscene is seeing that Riku is with Noah when he’s young. We can therefore wonder if Manana has not been with Mio since she was young as well. For this question, we don’t have the answer at the moment and we will surely have to wait until July 29 to know it unless some passages of the game appear by then via the official accounts.
