Xiaomi held a conference in China to present two new high-end smartphones, the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro. We summarize the main information to remember.

It was the end-of-year conference not to be missed for any self-respecting Xiaomi fan. The Chinese manufacturer has indeed lifted the veil on its two newcomers with big ambitions, which will land in our regions later in 2022: these are the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro, which have been the subject of numerous leaks in the in recent months.
Let’s start with the more affordable of the two, the Xiaomi 12. Visually, there is a change from the previous generation. This newcomer is indeed narrower with its 69.9 mm, against 74.6 mm for the Mi 11. Here, Xiaomi wants to improve the grip of its phone, which will normally be more pleasant to hold.
Lighter
The screen size drops drastically: the 6.81 inches of the Xiaomi Mi 11 are no longer, compared to a diagonal of 6.28 inches for this Xiaomi 12. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S21 opts for a screen of 6.2 inch. We are not in the compact smartphone category, but almost.
The format also has an impact on its weight: 180 grams, compared to the 196 grams of the Xiaomi Mi 11. Overall, we should therefore have a lighter and smaller smartphone. That good for the grip.
Unsurprisingly, the phone screen is entitled to AMOLED, for a Full HD definition of 2400 x 1080p – against 3200 x 1440 pixels last year. But at the same time, this flashback isn’t dramatic, and the screen is smaller anyway. Finally, the refresh rate of 120 Hz is obviously required.
Xiaomi also mentions stereo speakers designed with specialist Harmon Kardon, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision compatibility, as well as Gorilla Glass Victus protection against scratches and drops.
Xiaomi 12: what photo configuration?
On the performance side, no surprise: we already knew that the Xiaomi 12 would marry the latest Qualcomm processor, also called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Let’s continue with the photo configuration of the device, which sports a triple sensor, the characteristics of which are listed below. :
- 50 megapixel main sensor (f / 1.88);
- 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (f / 2.4);
- macro sensor (f / 2.4).
It is a shame here to ignore an optical zoom, even x2: it was notably one of the shortcomings observed on the Xiaomi Mi 11. With, this type of phone would really hurt the competitors in its segment. tariff, in terms of photo. We can still expect better software processing of the images.
Xiaomi focused on a new tool called CyberFocus, which would allow even better management of the camera’s automatic focus. Regardless of the subject’s location and movement, the focus would always manage to locate his face or his body to follow him. Up front, a 32-megapixel selfie camera was preferred.

The battery loses a little bit of energy capacity: 4500 mAh against 4600 mAh, even if this should not really affect the autonomy, especially if the system is better optimized thanks to MIUI 13 and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 .
Xiaomi 12: price
Three types of charging have been communicated by the brand: a 67 W wired, a 50 W wireless and a 10 W reverse charge. As you can see, the 120 W block tested on the Xiaomi 11T Pro n is not in the game.
Here are the Chinese prices converted into euros for the Xiaomi 12. Please note, taxes will apply in France, which should inflate the prices:
- Xiaomi 12 (8 + 128 GB): 3,699 yuan, or around 513 euros;
- Xiaomi 12 (8 + 128 GB): 3,999 yuan, or around 554 euros;
- Xiaomi 12 (12 + 256 GB): 4,399 yuan, or around 610 euros.
