Xiaomi unveiled its next-generation Xiaomi 12, 12 Pro and 12X smartphones last week, but the Ultra model was missing. Last year, Xiaomi waited many months before presenting the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, and it would be the same in 2022. However, a new aluminum mold has appeared online, and this one confirms the design that we had already seen a few weeks ago.

You can see on the back of the smartphone a huge circular photo module that takes almost the entire width of the smartphone. According to previous leaks, there are at least three photo sensors, including a main of 50 MP. It is currently not known whether this is the same IMX707 that Xiaomi used on its Xiaomi 12 Pro or the Samsung ISOCELL GN2 from the previous generation. He will be accompanied by a periscope sensor offering 5X optical zoom, unlike the Xiaomi 12 Pro which must be satisfied with a 2X telephoto lens.

The Xiaomi 12 Ultra would not exist, it would be replaced by the Xiaomi MIX 5

According to information from leaker @xiaomiui, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra would simply not exist. Indeed, the smartphone bears the model name “L1”, and it would have been attributed to the MIX range rather than the main range. Therefore, it may well be that Xiaomi decides to abandon its Ultra smartphone in favor of the Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro, which will arrive by March 2022.

We know that both smartphones will use a camera under the screen, unlike the Xiaomi 12. The Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro are for the moment known respectively under the model names “L1” and “L1A” and under the codenames “Thor” and “Loki”. This confirms that they are indeed related to the Xiaomi MIX 4, the manufacturer’s first smartphone with a camera under the screen, which was known as name of “Odin”. The Xiaomi MIX 5 and MIX 5 Pro could be the first devices from Xiaomi to be designed in partnership with Leica for the photo part.
