Xiaomi 14 Ultra: the high-end smartphone would benefit from a whole new asset for photography

The main sensor of the future Xiaomi 14 Ultra could clearly stand out from what we have seen so far in photos from the Chinese manufacturer. At least that’s what we deduce from one of the latest comments from leaker Digital Chat Station, on the Chinese social network Weibo.

The person in question in fact evokes a high-end smartphone equipped with a main lens with variable aperture, capable of oscillating between f/1.6 and f/4 depending on the conditions of use. Given the context, it is a safe bet that this product is indeed the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which would then mark a turning point compared to its predecessor. As a reminder, the main module of the current Xiaomi 13 Ultra (which was sold in Europe, but in very limited quantities) is limited to “only” two opening possibilities.

Towards a formidable Xiaomi 14 Ultra in photos?

In this case, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra would be equipped with a total of four rear sensors of 50 Mpx each. However, only the optics accompanying its main sensor would be able to aperture between f/1.6 and f/4. We would then get closer to what the Xiaomi 14 Pro (recently announced in China) is capable of doing. Its main module benefits from an aperture ranging from f/1.42 to f/4. For comparison, the main sensor of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is satisfied with an aperture of f/1.9 or f/4, with no intermediate options.

For the rest, and according to the latest rumors, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra would be equipped with a glass back. In any case, this is what the prototypes of the device currently tested by Xiaomi suggest, notes Android Authority. However, it is not impossible that the brand will finally opt, and again, for a faux leather back covering, as it did on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra should in any case be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and HyperOS, an operating system recently announced by Xiaomi. At this stage, however, we still do not know what screen will be integrated into the device, and what its configurations will be in terms of RAM and internal storage. It is also difficult to know whether this model will be commercialized on a large scale outside of the Chinese market… an option that Xiaomi has however so far favored for its previous flagships.
