Size

Let’s start with the obvious: size. With dimensions of 152.8 x 71.5 x 8.2 millimeters, the Xiaomi 14 is significantly more compact than the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, which measures 161.4 x 75.3 x 9.2 millimeters. The image diagonals are correspondingly different. The Xiaomi 14 offers a 6.36-inch display, the Ultra model has a 6.73-inch display.

display

Both screens are AMOLED displays that, thanks to LTPO technology, can regulate the refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hertz to match the screen content. Both screens also achieve a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits and support standards such as Dolby Vision and HDR10+.

The only difference is the resolution. It is 2,670 x 1,200 pixels for the Xiaomi 14 and 3,200 x 1,440 pixels for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. But you probably won’t notice a difference in everyday life. The display on both devices is razor-sharp.

Processor and memory

The processor is also identical in both models. It is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. There are differences in the memory configuration. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is only available in Germany with 16 gigabytes (GB) of RAM and 512 gigabytes of device memory.

With the Xiaomi 14, however, you can choose between a variant with 256 or 512 gigabytes of memory. Both variants each work with 12 GB of RAM.

battery pack

The battery capacity is also dimensioned differently, which is not surprising given the different housing sizes. The Xiaomi 14 offers a 4,610 milliamp hour battery, the Ultra model has a 5,000 milliamp hour battery. We can only say after a detailed test how the different battery capacities affect the runtime.

The batteries of the two cell phones differ not only in their capacity, but also in their charging speed. The Xiaomi 14 can be charged at a socket with up to 90 watts; wirelessly, the maximum charging power is 50 watts. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra has 90 watts at the socket and 80 watts for wireless charging. Please note that you will need a special charger for this.

camera

Both the Xiaomi 14 and the 14 Ultra have a camera system developed in collaboration with Leica. While the Xiaomi 14 only has a triple camera on the back, the Ultra offers a quad camera. The fourth camera is a second telephoto lens with a focal length of 120 millimeters (mm). The maximum focal length for the 14 model, however, is 75 mm.

But there are also other differences. Xiaomi uses a larger sensor for the main camera in the Ultra model. This measures 1 inch, the sensor on the 14 is significantly smaller. The main camera also has a variable aperture, which the 14 model lacks. In addition, the telephoto cameras and the ultra wide angle of the Ultra model are brighter than those of the basic model, which is particularly noticeable in the dark.

Other differences

  • The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is only available in black and white in this country, the Xiaomi 14 is also available in green.
  • At 193 grams, the Xiaomi 14 is significantly lighter than the Ultra, which, according to the manufacturer, weighs 219 grams.
  • The screen of the Xiaomi 14 is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus; for the Ultra, Xiaomi uses the self-developed Xiaomi Shield Glass.
  • The back of the Ultra is made of artificial leather, while the Xiaomi 14 is made of glass.
  • The Xiaomi 14 supports eSIM, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra does not.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for the best photography experience, you can’t avoid buying the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. If you can make minor compromises with the camera and prefer a more compact form factor, you should choose the Xiaomi 14.

Both cell phones can be pre-ordered now. With 256 gigabytes of storage, the Xiaomi costs 14,999 euros, while with 512 GB it costs 1,099 euros. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra is available for 1,499 euros. Various offers await those who pre-order, which we explain in the following articles:
