Anyone who has a Xiaomi cell phone should leave one thing alone. Otherwise you risk not receiving any updates in the future.
If you want to receive updates to the new HyperOS user interface for your Xiaomi cell phone in the future, you should not unlock the bootloader. Otherwise, your device will be excluded from the distribution of new firmware versions. The Chinese manufacturer confirmed this to the US online magazine Android Authority.
Xiaomi justifies the step by saying that unlocking the bootloader endangers the security of your data and makes the device vulnerable. By unlocking the bootloader, you can gain more extensive rights on your devices and, for example, have the option of installing an alternative operating system. After all, if you reverse the process, you will receive HyperOS updates again.

HyperOS was recently announced alongside the Xiaomi 14 in China. This is a new user interface for the manufacturer’s cell phones, which is intended to replace the previous MIUI user interface. HyperOS is scheduled to be distributed in spring 2024, but initially the new system will only be available on a handful of Xiaomi devices.
HyperOS is not the only innovation in terms of updates from Xiaomi. The Chinese manufacturer is currently revising its software policy on a larger scale. Most recently, the support period for selected cell phones was extended from four to five years. This new regulation applies, for example, to the Xiaomi 13T and 13T Pro.
