Xiaomi has just unveiled its Redmi Buds 4 and Redmi Buds 4 Pro headphones in China, noise reduction headphones for a price of less than 100 euros.
This Tuesday, on the occasion of the presentation of its new connected bracelet, the Smart Band 7, Xiaomi also lifted the veil on two new pairs of wireless headphones, the Xiaomi Redmi Buds 4 and Redmi Buds 4 Pro.
With such similar names, the two new pairs of headphones from Xiaomi logically share some commonalities. This is the case on their format since we are dealing here with two pairs of in-ear headphones. They will therefore offer silicone tips with passive insulation. In addition, both models incorporate active noise reduction, but at a different level as we will see later. We are also dealing, in both cases, with a box that charges only thanks to the USB-C socket and not wirelessly, by induction.
However, the similarities between the two models end there and, even in terms of design, we have two pairs of very different looking wireless headphones. As for the Redmi Buds 4, Xiaomi seems to have taken up a design quite similar to that of the Redmi Buds 3 Pro. So we have a vertical ovoid case with stemless headphones. An aspect that is reminiscent of that of the Google Pixel Buds. The headphones themselves weigh 4.5 grams each and are IP54 rated for sweat and rain protection while the case measures in at 48.6 x 64.9 x 26.2mm.
We are entitled to active noise reduction, but limited to a reduction of 35 dB of ambient sounds with three levels of adjustment. The headphones also offer a transparent mode to stay aware of your surroundings. Each earphone also has two microphones to better target your voice to capture it during voice calls. For sound reproduction, the Redmi Buds 4 benefit from 10 mm diameter transducers. Xiaomi does not specify the codecs used, but we can safely expect support only for AAC and SBC.
The headphones also feature touch controls and wearing detection. However, as often with Xiaomi, you will have to use a manufacturer’s smartphone to enjoy a full experience, as no application developed by Xiaomi allows you to manage the headphones. Luckily, there are now third-party apps that can control them on phones from other brands. Finally, for autonomy, the Redmi Buds 4 can work for 6 hours without noise reduction.
Redmi Buds 4 Pro with dual transducers
For their part, the Xiaomi Redmi Buds 4 Pro offer a different design, closer to that of Apple’s AirPods Pro. We therefore have a more elongated case with headphones equipped with rods. The earphones this time have active noise reduction that can go up to 43 dB thanks to three microphones per earphone. Xiaomi also communicates on a sound of “high fidelity” using its dual 10mm and 6mm drivers. A system already used in particular by Samsung on its Galaxy Buds Pro to better restore both bass and treble.
For the autonomy of its headphones, Xiaomi communicates this time on 9 hours of use without active noise reduction.
The Xiaomi Redmi Buds 4 and Redmi Buds 4 Pro are currently only launched in China. The first models are offered at a price of 199 yuan, or 28 euros, while the latter are displayed at 399 yuan, or 56 euros. As with the Xiaomi Band 7, we can expect marketing in the rest of the world – and in particular in France – in the coming months.
