Xiaomi’s electric car outperforms Tesla and Mercedes on one key point

Xiaomi Motors recently presented its SU7 sedan, a model that is full of interesting new features, and which also stands out on one specific point: aerodynamics.

Announced with great fanfare a few hours ago, notably with technologies that would make the best brands of electric cars pale, the Xiaomi SU7 should undoubtedly shake up the hierarchy in China, its favorite market. All the information concerning the car can be found in our dedicated article.

But in addition to its impressive autonomy who could pass the 1100 km WLTPthe SU7 has a few secrets that the most observant will no doubt have noticed when seeing the car in profile.

Indeed, the Xiaomi SU7 is a particularly aerodynamic car, with an announced Cd of only 0.195. To understand everything about the drag coefficient of a car, do not hesitate to consult our file.

The queen of aerodynamics? Almost !

Xiaomi announces a length of 4.99 meters, a wheelbase of 3.00 meters, a width of 1.96 meters and a height of 1,440 meters. Dimensions similar to the best European sedans on the market and halfway between the Mercedes EQE and EQS or the Tesla Model S.

And it’s not just in terms of dimensions that the SU7 apes the aforementioned electric sedans. In terms of aerodynamics, the Chinese sedan cannot do better than the Lightyear 0 and its 0.175 Cx, but manages to dethrone the Lucid Air by a few points, the American sedan being announced at 0.197. It also does better than the Mercedes EQS 450+ and its 0.20 and the Tesla Model S and its 0.208.

Some do better, but are more atypical

But there are even better things than these cars. The best of the lot is the Aptera, an amazing solar car on three wheels. All the information concerning it can be found in our dedicated subject. Just remember that it benefits from a record Cx of only 0.13.

More recently, and also more consensual, there was the Mercedes EQXX prototype, which aimed to highlight the importance of good aerodynamics for good autonomy. Mission accomplished since the Mercedes EQXX concept traveled 1,202 km across Europe, between Stuttgart and Silverstone, taking the Channel Tunnel. The car has a Cd of just 0.17.

Coming back to our Xiaomi SU7, it will first be sold in China and is not planned in Europe at the moment. It will also be positioned opposite the formidable Nio ET7 in China. Its price has not yet been announced, but it should be quite steep. And even more so if it arrives in Europe.
