Xpeng G9 electric SUV: 200 km of autonomy recovered in 5 minutes!

During a brief stay in Amsterdam, Digital took control of the Xpeng P5, an electric sedan available since March 2022 in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands – where the company’s European headquarters are located.

In addition to the P5, yet another competitor to the Tesla Model 3, Xpeng Motors offers three other electric vehicles, still in Europe. But the range should be enriched with a new model, the G9, a large 5-seater electric SUV whose only bodywork was revealed in November 2021. Xpeng Motors recently unveiled this vehicle in its entirety.

Measuring 4.89m in length, 1.94m in width and 1.68m in height, the G9 tackles the Tesla Model Y head-on, as well as the BMW iX and Audi e-tron. One of its particularities is to be available in three versions, with one or two electric motors, two or four-wheel drive. Thus, the basic version (propulsion) has a single electric motor positioned on the rear axle. It develops 230 kW (313 hp) for a torque of 430 Nm. The maximum speed is given for 200 km/h, while 0 to 100 km/h is reached in 6.4 s. As for autonomy, it varies from 570 km for the RWD 570 G and RWD 570 E models to 700 km for the RWD 702 E long-range model (CLTC cycles). On the other hand, the manufacturer does not communicate on the capacity of the battery.

Finally, the three four-wheel drive models (650 E Performance, 650 X Performance and 650 X Launch Edition) are equipped with two electric motors with the same 230 kW motor in the rear and the second 175 kW (238 hp) in the front. The total power reaches 405 kW (550 hp) for a torque of 717 Nm. On the other hand, the autonomy of 650 km (CLTC cycles) is identical on the three models, as is the exercise from 0 to 100 km / h shot down in 3.9 sec.

What sets these three versions apart is the connected infotainment and driving aids. The 650 X Performance and Launch Edition integrate 31 sensors, a front camera and two LiDARs in the front grille. The whole is managed by two Nvidia Drive Orin CPUs, whose computing power is 508 TOPS (trillion calculation operations per second).

Architecture at 800 V and charging at 480 kW

In addition to these rather well-developed technical aspects, the Xpeng G9 is very strong in terms of recharging. The SUV is based on an 800 V architecture, like the Porsche Taycan, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. An advantage that allows you to recharge at ultra-fast terminals in a minimum of time. Thus, the Xpeng G9 is able to withstand a load of 480 kW, or 200 km in 5 min, or even a 10 to 80% in just 15 min! A record that will be difficult to implement for the moment in Europe: the Ionity terminals offer up to 350 kW of charging power against 250 kW for the Tesla Supercharger.

The Xpeng G9 is aimed at the global market. In China, its deliveries are scheduled from October 2022. As for prices, they start from €44,866 and go up to €68,030 for the top of the range. No date has been communicated concerning Europe for the moment.
