Yannick Jadot was the guest of Franceinfo’s “Presidential Mornings” this Friday, January 28, for a taste of his presidential program. The environmental candidate mentioned several subjects such as growth, the purchasing power of the French, but also the Ukrainian situation and the use of pesticides in rural areas.
With a growth rate of 7% for the year 2021, France is experiencing an economic rebound more seen for 52 years. This figure was welcomed by Yannick Jadot, who considered that “it is thanks to the French men and women, to the entrepreneurs, to the employees, who despite the difficulties went to work and assumed their expenses” that this rate is so important. He admitted that short-time working and business support “have been useful tools to deal with the crisis”, but noted that France is also “the great dividend record holder”. While “the fortunes of billionaires have exploded”, the Greens candidate insisted on recalling that “this growth is very unevenly distributed”. He thus criticized the growth supported by Emmanuel Macron, which, according to him, “does not benefit everyone, and does not make it possible to fight against the major challenges that are before us: the climate, biodiversity and social justice” .
Its solutions to “restore purchasing power to the French” and to deal with the rise in energy prices are the establishment of an energy check of 400 euros “for the 6 million most affected households” , and a check for 100 euros “for the 15 million families above” in terms of income. On wages, Jadot is aiming for an increase of around 20% in “absolutely essential” sectors such as hospitals and schools. He also wants to “increase the minimum wage by 10%” and wants to move “all low wages”, especially for “invisibilized” trades such as cashiers or garbage collectors.
The MEP wants to put the public hospital back on its feet
Yannick Jadot then spoke about inheritance rights, and proposes “a reduction of up to 200,000 euros”, including for inheritances to grandchildren. He would like to “remove all exemptions for the richest” and “restore fair solidarity by integrating the climate issue”. “All the additional profits from this levy will go towards addiction,” he added. He wants to favor public and non-profit establishments over private nursing homes.
The MEP wants to put the public hospital back on its feet, and advocates access to health care for all. Vaccinated, unvaccinated, “his only compass is science”. He relies on what the specialists say: “convince rather than constrain”. But on health what scandalizes him the most is the use of carcinogenic pesticides in rural areas: “we put our children in environments that make them sick” was indignant the ecologist. “The farmers who spread are dressed like ninja turtles,” he said, while next, “we let the children run around in the gardens”.
On the question of Ukraine, the presidential candidate showed his support for the Ukrainians. He proposed a summit in Kiev with all European leaders “to show that Europe is united in the defense of territorial integrity and democracy”. While Russia would feel threatened by NATO knocking on its door, Yannick Jadot recalled “that there is no request from Ukraine to join NATO, nor to join the European Union” . For him, the best response to Putin is to “present a strong and united European Union”, and the gesture that Emmanuel Macron must make is to “go there, to Kiev”.
Finally, the candidate was invited to speak about the Popular Primary which will end on January 30th. The latter asked “all those people who have registered with sincerity” to vote “to defend ecology and social justice”, and therefore to vote for him.
