YB celebrates a 4-0 home win – Bettoni’s debut fails: Sion clearly loses in Bern – Sport

  • In the 24th round of the Super League, YB easily beats FC Sion in Wankdorf 4-0.
  • At the debut of Sion coach David Bettoni, the team has to act outnumbered for a long time after a red card against Giovanni Sio (25th).
  • In the second game of the evening, FC Lugano welcomes FC Zurich. You can follow this game live on SRF Zwei.
  • Neo-coach David Bettoni had guessed that the first task as Sion coach would not be easy. Away from Bern, Sion has not won a league game since 1996. And the current form of the Sittener also did not suggest anything good. The premonitions came true early on: the favorite from Bern was already leading after two minutes, Meschack Elia had used a rebound to give YB an early lead.

After the sleepy start, Bettoni’s team was able to stabilize, but after 25 minutes there was the next setback. Giovanni Sio was sent off with a direct red card. In an off-game situation, the striker clashed with Cédric Zesiger. The man from Sitten hit the back several times – but never hit Zesiger. Nevertheless, he was sent off by referee Luca Cibelli.

YB quickly makes everything clear

Outnumbered, Bettoni switched his team and, despite being behind, put even more on the defensive. This went well until the 38th minute, then Elia escaped the entire opposing defense, stayed cool in front of Lindner and scored to make it 2-0. The YB striker scored his 4th and 5th goals of the season in that game.

In the 2. nd half, another YB player, Fabian Rieder, was able to celebrate as a double goal scorer. In the 65th minute he made everything clear with the 3:0. And a few minutes before the end he was concerned with a dream goal for the final score. From almost 20 meters, the 21-year-old settled the ball and flicked it wonderfully past Lindner into the corner.

Things are getting tight for Sion

Bettoni’s debut failed miserably. Furthermore, FC Sion is second to last. The tied Winterthur, which is only on the Barrageplatz because of the fewer goals scored, could, however, already overtake the Valais team on Sunday with a point win away from GC.

Here’s how to proceed

For YB, the home game against FC Basel is coming up next Sunday. Sion already welcomes the Grasshoppers to a duel in the relegation battle on Saturday. You can follow this game live on SRF from 8:30 p.m.
