DUBAI (Reuters) – Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility on Saturday for a missile attack on the British oil tanker Pollux, reported the day before by U.S. authorities.
The U.S. State Department said Friday that the Pollux, a Panama-flagged tanker carrying crude oil bound for India, was hit by a missile on its port side.
“The naval forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a targeted operation against a British oil ship (Pollux) in the Red Sea with a large number of naval missiles, and the strikes were precise and direct,” the Yemeni military spokesperson said. Houthis, Yahya Sarea, in a statement.
Since mid-November, the Houthis have launched repeated drone and missile attacks against international commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Bab el Mandeb Strait, claiming to act in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
