The priority: confirm your pregnancy

In pharmacies:
The pregnancy test is 99% reliable. Its big advantage is that it gives you immediate results.
Take this test about 10 days after the presumed fertilization or a few days after the presumed return of the rules (at least three days), it will confirm your pregnancy.

In laboratory:
Ask your gynecologist to prescribe a blood test, the only 100% reliable proof … but you have to wait to know the result!

Your baby's progress at 1 month of pregnancy

The egg has implanted in the lining of the uterus.
At four weeks, your baby already has a heart, a stomach: this is the start of his organogenesis, that is to say the establishment of his main organs.
In the 1st month of pregnancy the limbs do not really stand out: we speak of limb pallets.
The nervous system is developing.
The sense organs begin to develop. We speak of an embryo even if it still has neither eyes nor a mouth.
At this stage, baby floats in the amniotic cavity connected to the outer part of the egg by the developing umbilical cord.

At the end of the first month, your baby is two to five millimeters tall.

It is possible that during this 1st month, you have, like almost 20% of women, a miscarriage. It results in the loss of your feelings related to pregnancy, by a continuous loss of blood (but beware: this intermittent blood loss can be quite normal). In this case, consult your gynecologist.

The best positions during pregnancy:

Practical steps

If you live in a large city and want to give birth in hospital, consider choosing and reserving your maternity ward from the first month of pregnancy. Better to start early to make sure you have a reserved bed.

Your health and diet in the first month of pregnancy

  • The so-called violent sports are strongly discouraged in order to limit the risk of miscarriage: skiing, martial arts, horseback riding … Likewise, avoid too long trips by car.
  • If you haven't already, stop the cigarette.
  • Reduce your consumption of coffee and tea.
  • Banish them strong alcohols.
  • A food varied and balanced will meet these important needs for the formation of the embryo and for yourself.
  • Avoid it cheese raw unpasteurized, possibly carrying listeriosis. Conversely, hard cheeses like ComtĂ© are safe.

You will need vitamins and trace elements throughout the first trimester. Ask your gynecologist for advice.
You are going to be tired: give yourself moments of rest.
If you suffer from migraines, nausea always consult your doctor before treating yourself because many drugs are prohibited during pregnancy or strongly discouraged, such as aspirin.
If your gums are bleeding, make an appointment with the dentist.

Your psycho in the 1st month of pregnancy

If you have other children, it is better to tell them about the little baby in your womb very early on because children can feel everything. Instinctively, they know there is a big change. Better to involve them in it than to keep them excluded, which they would not understand.

Even if you prefer to wait for the 1st ultrasound that will make sure the pregnancy is going well, tell them already about your desire to have another child to prepare them for the big news.
