Star Citizen’s new DLC exceeds €50,000
As Kotaku reminds us, this is not the first time that Star Citizen is linked to an exorbitantly priced DLC. Such a pack considered legendary already existed, and the price has only increased year after year. In 2018, the “Package – Legatus 2950” cost $27,000. In 2021, the “Package – Legatus 2951” was priced at $40,000. And, in 2022, Roberts Space Industries launched the “Package – Legatus 2952” for $42,000.
Everything seems to be an excuse to spend as much as possible: the “Package – Legatus 2953” is only accessible to those who are members of what the company calls the “Chairman’s Club” — i.e. people who have a status in the game. The status in question is linked to the money you have injected into Star Citizen. The first level, called High Admiral, is guaranteed from $1,000 spent. This amount can be reached quite quickly, when you see the number of items that Roberts Space Industries sells in its store.
Still at the alpha version stage powered by multiple more or less stable updates (the first launched in 2023 was not easy), Star Citizen despite everything, continues to be supported by a community of enthusiasts. In an article published on January 1, TechRaptor indicates that its crowdfunding has seen growth for the sixth year in a row. $117.5 million was injected by fans in 2023, with even a record day in November ($3.5 million). In total, the crowdfunding exceeds 650 million dollars, without any assurance that all the promises of the game will be fulfilled.
