Distress and amazement for several PS5 and PS4 players. Some learned overnight that their PSN accounts were suspended, without good reason. They lose all their purchased games “for life”.
PlayStation is currently experiencing reprimands from authorities and players. On the one hand, the manufacturer will face a class action lawsuit in England where it risks losing several billion dollars in the event of defeat. Germany, for its part, threatened the publisher over its PS Store policy. For its part, the community is angry about Sony’s recent decision to delete content purchased “for life” from their library without warning. And yet, several PS5 and PS4 players had a very unpleasant surprise. Surprise, which costs them their PSN accounts, but also all the digital games they had purchased.
They lose all their PS5 and PS4 games suddenly
Some awakenings are more difficult than others. If many of you were able to discover the first trailer for GTA 6 early this morning, some PlayStation players had a very unpleasant surprise. On the night of Monday to Tuesday, December 5, dozens of people reported that their PSN accounts had been simply suspended overnight without any warning or valid reason. “ This account is permanently suspended from PlayStation Network due to violations of the Terms and Conditions », Sony sent to the unfortunate victims.
Without explanation, they then find themselves deprived of all their purchased digital content, games, DLC and films included without any real explanation. This represents thousands of euros for some. Distressed, many players stormed the brand’s Twitter and Facebook accounts to report the problem, but PlayStation has apparently not become aware of the problem at the time of writing. Their messages went unanswered, and all their purchases and accounts remain suspended until further notice, without knowing why. “ I have 500 games, I lost everything and I have no answers »complains one of the victims.
No recourse possible at present
Looking closer, no technical issues appear to be ongoing on the PS Store. All the lights are green on the official support page. At this stage, it is difficult to know how many PS5 and PS4 players are impacted, or whether victims will be able to quickly find compensation. Otherwise they will permanently lose all their purchases, their trophy progressions etc.
The timing couldn’t be worse for PlayStation. Lately, the brand has struggled to attract the favor of its community. The increase in PS Plus prices is still very difficult to pass, with the majority complaining with each announcement that it is unjustified with regard to the games offered or added and the services offered. More recently, Anglo-Saxons will see more than 1,300 pieces of content purchased “for life” removed from their libraries due to copyright. More than ever, the debate on the real ownership of digital content is relaunched. You never really own what you buy digitally and buyers have little, if any, protection.
