The time of the ticket purchase is crucial
The decisive factor is when the ticket was bought. Because the so-called voucher solution has been effective retrospectively since May 20, 2020 for admission tickets that were purchased before March 8, 2020. The date of the event is irrelevant.
This affects tickets for concerts, festivals, theater performances, readings, film screenings or sports competitions. But also admission tickets for museums, amusement parks, swimming pools as well as subscriptions for sports studios or season tickets for stadiums are included.
For tickets purchased after March 8, 2020, according to consumer advocates, customers can have the ticket price reimbursed if the event is canceled.
Money can be requested from January
Anyone who has received a voucher can use it with the respective organizer for their offers. If the voucher has not been redeemed by the end of the year, payment of the amount can be requested since January 1st, 2022. If you don’t want that, you can still use the voucher to pay for tickets.
Basically: The repayment claims from canceled events expire within three years. For events that were canceled in 2020 due to the corona pandemic, claims can be made until December 31, 2023, explains the consumer advice center. For events that could not or will not take place in 2021, the limitation period runs until December 31, 2024.
