You can talk to yourself on WhatsApp: handy for taking notes on the fly

It is an option that is not very innovative, but convenient: on WhatsApp, you can now talk to yourself. Convenient for jotting down ideas on the fly.

Forget the applications that allow you to take notes: you can now use WhatsApp. Instant messaging receives an update that allows you to open a chat with yourself, and post anything that crosses your mind in the conversation. Convenient for writing down your shopping list, your to-do list or ideas.

The change was announced by Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, in a Twitter post on Nov. 28, 2022. in younger generations. You are free to delete them afterwards, if these memos are no longer of interest.

End-to-end encrypted notes on WhatsApp

The security of the messages you send to each other remains at the same level as your exchanges with third parties: end-to-end encryption applies, therefore, neither WhatsApp, nor your telephone operator, nor a third party can access what you write. At least it’s true if he’s trying to break the cipher. If your unlocked phone is taken, that’s another story.

The functionality offered by WhatsApp is not innovative, as many other services already allow this possibility – for example Slack or Signal, with the option “Note to me”). But, with WhatsApp being more widely used around the world, its new feature will statistically be able to benefit more people. It is also more convenient than the emails that we send to ourselves.

To check if you already have this option, try opening a new chat with yourself. If you can’t select yourself, even if you have the application of your own, it means that you are not yet in the deployment wave. Within the editorial staff, some people did not have it yet, while others could already talk to each other.
