you may not have noticed, but the latest updates have slowed down your SSD

More and more Windows 11 users are taking to social media to express their dissatisfaction with how the operating system works. Specifically, they claim that their SSDs’ disk access times have degraded.

The latest Windows 11 updates would have greatly degraded the performance of some SSDs. For some systems, the loss in disk speed, both read and write, would be on the order of 85%, from 7000 to 1000 MB/s, in the most extreme cases.

According to Windows Latest, not all PCs are affected by this SSD performance issue in Windows 11. That said, Internet users affected by this failure are still more numerous on social networks such as Reddit or even on the windows forum, and the grumbling begins to grow. While you don’t always need maximum read and write speeds, there are times when a fast SSD makes the difference between a great memory and an ordeal.

The speed of some SSDs has slowed down significantly after a recent Windows 11 update

It is while playing, after an update, that Internet users found that the SSD no longer kept pace. According to Windows Latest, this bug has surfaced after the March 2023 Cumulative Update. The site has also identified all Windows 11 updates for which slowdown problems have been reported:

  • KB5027303 — June 2023 optional update
  • KB5027231 — June 2023 Tuesday Patch (Required)
  • KB5026372 — May 2023 Tuesday Patch (Required)
  • KB5025239 — April 2023 Tuesday Patch (Required)
  • KB5023778 — March 2023 Patch Tuesday, the update where Windows 11 started showing ads for Microsoft products and SSD issues appeared

To avoid these problems, the only solution seems to be to uninstall faulty updates, which is strongly discouraged, since it will also deprive your PC of the latest security patches. By focusing its efforts on integrating artificial intelligence into Windows 11, has Microsoft put aside the stability of its operating system? In any case, the Redmond firm has not announced a patch for the July 2023 update.
