You will never see the real Robin Hood tree again, and the reason is as sad as it is distressing

The famous 200-year-old Sycamore Gap tree, made famous since its appearance in the 1991 film “Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves,” was the victim of vandalism by a teenager, who was placed in police custody.

A chainsaw massacre. Literally. Britain is in shock, since a 16-year-old British teenager was arrested for sawing down the most famous tree at Sycamore Gap located in the Northumberland National Park. And it’s not just any tree: it’s the most photographed in the country; the one we see in the film Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves.

Located near Hadrian’s Wall, dating from Roman times and built to prevent the invasion of barbarian hordes, this maple, planted there 200 years ago, has brought joy to thousands of people who came on hikes to see it from the movie release.

Warner Bros.

“The Northumberland National Park Authority can confirm that, unfortunately, the famous Sycamore Gap tree fell overnight” local authorities indicated in a press release, specifying that they discovered the tree this Thursday, September 28 in the morning. “We have reason to believe he was deliberately shot.”

A photo of infinite sadness shows this tree, voted “tree of the year” in 2016, felled, next to the one still majestic in the film…

Placed in police custody, the teenager, suspected of vandalism, is the subject of an investigation by the local police, to determine possible criminal consequences to be given to his act.
