In a blog post, the Mountain View firm announces the integration of its language model into the GPS application. The arrival of ChatGPT and the rise of Microsoft in the world of AI have obviously been an electric shock for Google, which is now seeking to catch up by all means. While the firm has just announced the launch of Gemini Pro in France, which adds numerous features to Bard, it is also launching a new feature within Google Maps based on its LLM. Objective: obtain personalized recommendations using a simple command.
A new section will soon make its debut on the GPS application. It will allow you to chat directly with it, asking it to search for a type of place in a given area. In its demonstration, Google takes the example of a user looking for places with a retro atmosphere in San Francisco. After a short search, Maps then draws up a list of restaurants, stores and other businesses matching these criteria.

Where it gets interesting is that Google Maps is able to take previous searches into account to refine its recommendations. For example, after obtaining a list of places with retro decoration, the user can ask to only include restaurants. The application runs and only displays places where it is possible to have lunch in the surrounding area.
If that’s still not enough, the results are then arranged by category, in the form of a carousel allowing you to navigate through various photos and other details that might interest the user. We find the range of features of the application: contact information, reviews and comments, address, travel time to get there, etc.
Currently, this feature is only available in the United States for a handful of users.
