you will soon pay less in the event of early termination

Several amendments to the bill for purchasing power were adopted by the deputies on Thursday July 21, in particular on the procedures for subscribing to and terminating an Internet subscription. Elected officials want to simplify procedures and remove several rules that weigh heavily on the wallets of French people today.

To support French households in full inflation, the deputies adopted Thursday, July 21 several measures of article 7 of the bill for purchasing power. Part of these amendments concerns the procedures for terminating contracts concluded on the Internet, reports Capital.

According to the government, no national or European system governs the termination of contracts concluded at a distance by electronic means, via the internet or mobile application. The new text should make it easier for individuals to cancel their subscriptions and to be able to sign another more interesting contract without delay.

Definition of modalities

This measure, which could even extend to contracts signed physically, could be implemented no later than February 1, 2023 whether the text is definitively adopted. Article 7 provides for a very simple termination. A decree will come to define the precise modalities.

Thus, a button dedicated to termination must appear on the personal space of customers or subscribers online, and the number of clicks to access it must be limited. In Germany, a similar provision already exists and the termination button must be accessible with a maximum of two clicks. An email must immediately reach the customer to confirm the operation.

Removal of part of the cancellation fees

Several amendments were also adopted to limit the charges imposed on households. A measure thus removes part of the early termination fees that apply to mobile or box Internet packages. Today, when a 24-month commitment is terminated before this period, the individual must pay various fees: payment of the remaining monthly payments for the first year and payment of 25% of the remaining fees for the second year.

With the amendment voted on Thursday by the deputies, this payment of 25% of the costs will henceforth be abolished. In addition, another amendment passed by elected officials exempts individuals registered in over-indebtedness proceedings with the Banque de France from these fees. The latter will not have to pay any early termination fees.
