Instagram and Facebook will increase the number of AI-based recommendations to show you content from accounts you don’t follow.

While TikTok’s popularity is making people envious, Instagram is trying to up its game to get users to spend more time on Meta’s platform. These two applications are indeed competing for the top of the most downloaded applications.

It is therefore not surprising to see Instagram copying TikTok by pushing the Reels to the limit. But that’s not all. If you spend time on Instagram, you may have already seen how your news feed was giving more and more importance to accounts of influencers and influencers that you do not yet follow. If that already makes you cringe, then you’re probably not going to like Mark Zuckerberg’s recent announcement.

But on Instagram, where many users have taken the trouble to carefully select their subscriptions to have a tailor-made news feed, this strategy may not go over very well. This is the concern of recommendations based on AI: they are not always aimed correctly and we can end up seeing irrelevant content. Meta will have a lot to do to fine-tune its algorithms.
