The parliamentary channel (LCP) is broadcasting the documentary “Militant Youth” on Monday evening. Its director Samuel Elfassy explains to Europe 1 why he followed eight young people aged 22 and under, first-time presidential voters, who decided to get involved and campaign for one of the candidates.

INTERVIEW

They are preparing to vote for the first time and have already been campaigning for several months. LCP tell them through the documentary Militant youth, airing Monday night. They are eight, they are no more than 22 years old. All have one thing in common: they defend values that are dear to them, through the candidates they have supported since the start of the presidential election campaign. From the extreme right to the extreme left, this youth spends its free time towing and sticking up posters. Sometimes even to take risks for his safety.

Defend your candidate and fight the competitor

The director of this documentary is himself very young: Samuel Elfassy is 24 years old. “This idea came during the regional meetings of June 2021”, he recalls at the microphone of Europe 1. “I noticed that the press was very indignant at the lack of political awareness of young people and the abstention rate. At that time, I thought of people I knew from near and far and who were young people, activists for different political parties. I thought about the horizon of the presidential election and I said to myself that it would be interesting to shed light on these young people who are a bit the soul of the countryside, since they are the ones who are the most active.”

This documentary was made with the help of other young people, that of students from the school of journalism in Lille. “When you’re young, you have this reflex of wanting to change things and get your hands dirty, because you’re full of energy and you have time ahead of you,” explains Samuel Elfassy. “What struck me was also their animosity, the fact that he designated the party opposite as an enemy. In addition to supporting one candidate, they are fighting another.”

The documentary Militant Youth is to be seen Monday evening on The parliamentary channel (Canal 13 of TNT), from 8:30 p.m. The film will be followed by a debate moderated by Jean-Pierre Gratien.
