Young crowd horrified – thieves stole 100 bags of St. Nicholas from the rectory

There was great horror at the weekend in the parish of Amstetten Herz Jesu (Lower Austria). Strangers had sneaked into the rectory and stole 100 bags of St. Nicholas. Despite the sad incident, the festival mass on Sunday could be held as planned, the local young crowd rolled up their sleeves.

“Darn it and sewn up!” – that was probably what the hard-working staff of the Catholic youth group thought on Saturday morning in the Amstetten Herz Jesu parsonage. 100 prepared Nikolo bags including sweets, fruit and nuts suddenly disappeared and were probably stolen from the unlocked premises by unknown perpetrators during the night. Above all, the fact that the parish is actually known for its big heart for the needy and is now apparently the victim of brazen thieves gnawed at the helpers. But they didn’t bury their heads in the sand in the Mostviertel metropolis, they rolled up their sleeves: “The young crowd quickly found a replacement, and so the Sunday mass could be completed with new Santa bags and bright children’s eyes,” it says on request. A complaint was not made, the “poor souls” of perpetrators are probably not wanted to cause even more trouble.
