Young people for Jean-Luc Mélenchon, seniors with Emmanuel Macron… Who did the different age groups vote for?


The results of the first round of the presidential election show a different distribution according to the age of the voters.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon is the candidate acclaimed by young people, confirms an Ipsos-Sopra Steria poll for France Télévisions. The Insoumis candidate attracts 31% of 18-24 year olds and 34% of 25-34 year olds. In these categories, Marine Le Pen comes in second place, with 26% of the vote among 18-24 year olds and 25% among 25-34 year olds.

The RN candidate obtains her best score among middle-aged French people, between 35 and 59 years old. It thus attracts 28% of 35-49 year olds and 30% of 50-59 year olds. Emmanuel Macron comes a few points behind, with 24% of the votes for each of these two categories.

Emmanuel Macron acclaimed by older

The President of the Republic imposes himself very widely as the candidate of young seniors and retirees. It appeals to 30% of 60-69 year olds and 41% of people aged 70 and over. In this last age category, Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon are respectively relegated to 17% and 11%.

This leading trio wins in each age category. As for the “small” candidates, Eric Zemmour achieves his best score among those aged 60 and over (9%), Valérie Pécresse among those over 70 (12%) and Yannick Jadot among 18-24 year olds (6%) .

With regard to abstention, this is particularly high among 18-24 year olds (42%) and 25-34 year olds (46%).
